The Beginning of the Temperance Reform

The Temperance Reform started in the early 1800’s when people started to drink alcohol excessively. They thought it was a necessity to life, and they drank it as a substitute for water because of safety issues. However, people started to realize the negative effects of drinking and passed laws to ban alcohol completely. These people were named the “Cold Water Army.” This was a significant change because it meant people were trying to be the best people they could be.

I think this was an important change in the way people thought about the use of alcohol. Up until this time, people were drinking as a part of their everyday routines, and they were not really thinking about the side effects. When they passed laws and vowed not to drink alcohol at all they were changing their complete way of thinking. Now I’m wondering what people who didn’t agree with this were going to do.
